Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin - Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the communities of Kiskaciwan, Sturgeon Landing, Denare Beach, and PA Urban, based out of Prince Albert.

Reporting to the Director of Community Advocacy, the CAS is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families who are at risk of or involved with CFS. CAS functions as a member of interagency services supporting children, youth, and families, including local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social and ICFS, and other service providers in the communities.

The position supervises support staff consisting of Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Workers. It is a permanent full-time position.

Support Functions

Reporting to the Director of Community Advocacy, the Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS) is responsible for providing advocacy services for children, youth, and families. The Supervisor will work collaboratively with the community-based interagency (local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, PBCFSI, MSS, and other identified service providers).

  • Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws;
  • Support children, youth, and families in exercising their rights under these laws;
  • Promote substantive equality for children and youth;
  • Preserve, promote, and support family unity;
  • Connect PBCN children, youth, and families with their lands, languages, cultures, practices, customs, traditions, ceremonies, and knowledge;
  • Engage with individuals in empowering ways to promote holistic lifestyles;
  • Support children, youth, and families in matters involving CFS, including administrative and court proceedings;
  • Assist in developing the WMP Community Advocacy Program;
  • Supervise and support Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Workers in delivering advocacy services and post-majority care services;
  • Complete intake, maintain records, case files, contact notes, and case conferences, ensuring all records are protected and secured, with written approval from the Director;
  • Identify training needs of staff;
  • Liaise with the Director of Community Advocacy and Legal Counsel for Family Law representation when required;
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community-based service providers and authorities, making referrals as needed;
  • Host community engagement and information meetings;
  • Attend Community Advisory Committee meetings and provide reports;
  • Complete month-end reports.
Qualifications
  • Experience in management and supervising staff;
  • Knowledge of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation community programs and services, and other government agencies;
  • Respect for and understanding of Woodland Cree culture, traditions, values, and language;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act, and Health Services Act;
  • Experience with a child-centered and community approach, including holistic services, customs, and traditions;
  • Must provide a clear Child Welfare Check;
  • Must hold a Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and a clear Driver's Abstract;
  • Eligible to be a registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers;
  • Preferred: Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, or related fields;
  • Two (2) years of direct experience in a Social Services setting;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with online meetings.
