Under the general direction of the Program Manager/Clinical Program Coordinating Supervisor and the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, the Communicative Disorders Assistant carries out treatment programs with assigned patients. As a member of the Speech Language Pathology Practice group, the Communicative Disorders Assistant participates in discipline specific and inter-professional activities that are directed towards a client-centred environment and that contribute to operational efficiency, program and professional development.

Skills And Qualifications Required

  • Completion of the Communicative Disorders Assistant program
  • Demonstrated training, skills and education in rehabilitating clients in the areas of communication and cognition
  • Experience working with adults with acquired neurogenic disorders is an asset

Position Responsibilities

  • Conducts speech-language or hearing screenings (without interpretation) following specified screening protocols developed by the supervising therapist
  • Delivers treatment and/or remediation programs to clients selected by the supervising therapist
  • Follows documented treatment protocols developed by supervising therapist
  • Assists therapist during the assessment of clients
  • Completes client documentation under the supervision of a speech language pathologist
  • Ensures the comfort and safety of clients
  • Assists in the maintenance and housekeeping of the treatment areas
  • Schedules/organizes group and/or individual appointments as appropriate
  • Participates in day to day decision making and solution finding
  • Participates in committees as required
