Under the general direction of the Program Manager/Clinical Program Coordinating Supervisor and the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, the Communicative Disorders Assistant carries out treatment programs with assigned patients. As a member of the Speech Language Pathology Practice group, the Communicative Disorders Assistant participates in discipline specific and inter-professional activities that are directed towards a client-centred environment and that contribute to operational efficiency, program and professional development.
Skills And Qualifications Required
- Completion of the Communicative Disorders Assistant program
- Demonstrated training, skills and education in rehabilitating clients in the areas of communication and cognition
- Experience working with adults with acquired neurogenic disorders is an asset
Position Responsibilities
- Conducts speech-language or hearing screenings (without interpretation) following specified screening protocols developed by the supervising therapist
- Delivers treatment and/or remediation programs to clients selected by the supervising therapist
- Follows documented treatment protocols developed by supervising therapist
- Assists therapist during the assessment of clients
- Completes client documentation under the supervision of a speech language pathologist
- Ensures the comfort and safety of clients
- Assists in the maintenance and housekeeping of the treatment areas
- Schedules/organizes group and/or individual appointments as appropriate
- Participates in day to day decision making and solution finding
- Participates in committees as required
