Our Community Support Services (CSS) team provides essential services that enable our clients to thrive. Whether their disability is physical, the result of brain injury, or aging, our more than 2,000 team members assist clients in their homes and across communities, to live as independently as possible.

The opportunity:

We are currently looking to fill Communicative Disorders Assistant(Part-time) in Whitby.

Responsibilities:

· Through consultation with the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), and with the assistance of trained community volunteers, provide virtual and in-person group communication programs for adults with aphasia, and related neurogenic communication disorders

· Prepare and delivery and schedule weekly communication program activities and occasional special events. Utilize and teach strategies to assist clients in meeting their communication goals

· Participate, collaborate and consult with Program Manager, SLPs, attendants, other agency staff, volunteers, and community members/organizations/partnerships

· Develop aphasia friendly communication program materials (i.e., monthly calendar, creative skills session materials) in consultation with our SLPs, student interns and volunteers

· Supervise, coordinate, and train; volunteers, students, other professionals (Attendants, Social Workers, CDAs/ from other agencies) and caregivers of clients

· Capture client data

· Participate in additional initiatives, as required

· Respectful interactions with program services users

· Responsible for potential risks or malfunctions and act proactively to resolve issues, addressing quality and consumer-related issues

Qualifications and experience:

· Communicative Disorders Assistant certificate or diploma

· Eligible for full membership in Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC)

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a discipline related to health and social services an asset

· Current knowledge of a wide range of neurogenic and acquired adult communication disorders

· Knowledge of supportive communication techniques and aids, and techniques specific to adult neurogenic population, and ability to train others

· Experience working in virtual and in-person program settings

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Possess sound professional judgment, tact, initiative, creativity and flexibility

· Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

· Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle in order to work at varied locations
