Posting Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor of School Based Clinical and Therapy Services, the Communicative Disorders Assistant will support students' speech and language development and help build capacity in educators using a Multi-Tiered System of Supports framework. Under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist, the CDA will provide direct and indirect language, speech, and audiology services across various tiers. Responsibilities include screening, individual and group interventions, and resource creation for students with communication delays and disorders, along with other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications/Experience
- An undergraduate degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., linguistics, DSW, ECE) and a CDA or SLPA diploma from an approved college is required.
- Membership with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) is an asset.
Other Key Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, schools, staff, and the department.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with clients, caregivers, and educators.
- Excellent organizational skills for program implementation across various schools.
- Discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality maintenance.
- Experience in child language, phonological awareness, hearing screenings, articulation, and low-tech AAC devices is an asset.
- Creativity, flexibility, and efficiency in developing therapy plans for multiple tiers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, Word, OneNote, Excel).
- Reliable transportation is required for district-wide travel.
Position Effective Date & Length
Permanent, CUPE 10-month, 35 hours/week
Rate: Level 4 - $28.84 - $30.41
