Job description

kg&a is an award-winning communications strategy firm specializing in city building and the urban landscape. Over the last 15+ years, we’ve earned our reputation as communications and public relations experts across the residential and commercial real estate, architecture, planning, and placemaking industries.

We work closely with our clients to help them communicate their message effectively, focusing on what, where, when, why, and how they communicate. Our goal is to build our clients’ brand stories, not just land media coverage.

We are seeking a Communications Strategist to join our team. We welcome applicants at various experience levels, from early career to seasoned professionals. Successful candidates should be entrepreneurial self-starters with strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills.

Experience in communications, marketing, or related fields is preferred but not mandatory; we value diverse professional backgrounds, including former journalists, urban planners, lawyers, and public relations experts.

We value proactive, creative problem solvers passionate about cities, design, or real estate, who will bring their unique perspectives to the role.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and deliver communication strategies supporting client goals in collaboration with Account Directors and internal teams.
  2. Lead and participate in project and client meetings, providing insights and strategic counsel.
  3. Lead media campaigns, craft pitches for target outlets, and create impactful narratives.
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with media, stakeholders, and influencers, and foster new connections.
  5. Write and edit press releases, key messages, presentations, social media content, and other materials.
  6. Identify emerging issues and propose new approaches to address them.
  7. Develop event concepts and social media strategies, coordinating logistics with internal teams.
  8. Source and coordinate third-party vendors such as photographers, videographers, and designers.
  9. Monitor campaign KPIs and communicate results to clients.
  10. Contribute to new business initiatives alongside agency leadership.
  11. Uphold the firm’s goals and values, fostering a positive culture and team dynamics.

Requirements:

  1. Open to candidates at all experience levels, with backgrounds in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or related fields such as city building, real estate development, architecture, planning, or economic development.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant disciplines.
  3. Strong planning, project management, and leadership skills.
  4. Excellent storytelling, writing, and communication skills.
  5. Entrepreneurial, creative, and adaptable mindset.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and pay close attention to detail.
  7. Deep understanding of media and social media landscapes.

Working at kg&a:

  • Modern office on Bay Street near Union Station, with amenities including a canteen, gym, bike parking, and showers.
  • Flexible remote work policy, with two days in the office weekly.
  • Public Square learning and development program.
  • Progressive benefits, including a group retirement plan with matching, wellness benefits, summer hours, Uber account, and cell stipend.
