Job description

Location: Remote (our office is in Toronto, but remote/hybrid work is possible)

Employment status: Full-time, permanent (after probationary period)

Salary range: $52,000 – $58,000, plus full benefits, including 3 weeks’ vacation and flexible hybrid working environment

Language requirements: Preferred bilingual (English/French)

The HIV Legal Network (www.hivlegalnetwork.ca) promotes the human rights of people living with HIV or AIDS and other populations disproportionately affected by HIV, through research, advocacy, litigation, public education, and community mobilization.

We are seeking a Communications Specialist to support our communications activities. Reporting to the Co-Executive Director, the role involves:

  1. Managing the production of print and electronic materials, including the annual report, for various stakeholders.
  2. Leading writing, editing, and design of materials, and coordinating contractors as needed.
  3. Collaborating with different teams to ensure timely delivery of materials within budget.
  4. Ensuring all materials conform to our style and branding guidelines.
  5. Managing our online presence, including websites and social media, with technical support.
  6. Developing and evaluating media relations and public communication strategies.
  7. Supporting event-related print and web-based promotional materials.
  8. Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • A post-secondary degree, with a certificate in copy editing preferred.
  • 2-5 years of experience in communications.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills in English; French reading familiarity is a plus.
  • Project management experience, including working with contractors.
  • High attention to detail and quality control.
  • Experience or interest in graphic design and website management, ideally WordPress.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe software (Acrobat Pro, InDesign), and Canva.
  • Good humor, collegiality, and ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Alignment with the values of the HIV Legal Network.
