Your Role
We are seeking a Communications Specialist to join our Firmwide Communications team. This is a hybrid role based from either our Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal office. This is a high-impact role that requires exceptional writing and editing skills, strong project management abilities, and a deep understanding of communications strategy and digital content development. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the Firm’s internal and external communications, strengthening brand presence, and supporting strategic initiatives.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for crafting compelling content, managing communication projects, and leveraging digital tools to enhance the Firm’s reputation. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications, this role will work closely with lawyers, marketing and business development teams, and key stakeholders across the Firm.
Hours of work are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet client needs.

Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Communications & Content Development
- Execute on comprehensive communication strategies that support the Firm’s business objectives and enhance brand visibility.
- Write, edit, and manage a variety of content, including press releases, internal announcements, website updates, newsletters, client bulletins, and thought leadership pieces.
- Ensure all materials align with Fasken’s brand voice, are error-free, and maintain the highest editorial standards.
- Work closely with subject matter experts, including lawyers and business development teams, to translate complex legal topics into clear and engaging content.
Project & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and manage multiple communication projects simultaneously, using best in class project management and analytics tools to ensure deliverables are met on time and align with business goals.
- Act as a strategic partner to internal teams, offering communications expertise and best practices.
- Liaise with external agencies and vendors to coordinate campaigns.
Internal Communications & Employee Engagement
- Support internal communication initiatives, including intranet content, town halls, leadership messaging, and firmwide announcements.
- Partner with HR and other departments to support employee engagement communications and align messaging with company culture.
Social Media & Digital Strategy
- Support social media initiatives as needed, including content creation, scheduling, engagement, and analytics.
- Leverage a strong existing knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn) and best practices to optimize content performance as well as design (Canva).
- Assist in executing social media strategies that align with brand goals and audience engagement.
- Manage and update digital content using content management systems (CMS) to ensure accurate and timely publishing across web pages.
- Collaborate with marketing and creative teams to maintain consistency in messaging and branding across digital platforms.
Visual & Digital Content Creation
- Design visually compelling marketing materials using Canva, ensuring brand consistency across all digital assets.
- Collaborate with internal designers and external vendors to create high-quality graphics, infographics, and multimedia content.
Required Knowledge And Experience
- A post-secondary degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing is required.
- Exceptional proficiency in English, with French language skills considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a communications role, ideally within a law firm, professional services firm, government or a corporate environment.
- Proven ability to write compelling and polished content across multiple formats and audiences.
- Strong project management skills, with experience handling multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Deep understanding of social media best practices, analytics, and audience engagement strategies.
- Proficiency in Canva and other digital design tools to create visually appealing content.
- Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and email marketing tools is an asset.
