OVERVIEW:

Are you a communications or public relations professional with experience in the development and implementation of results-driven communications strategies? Are you a skilled communicator who understands the need to customize goals and objectives for diverse audiences to achieve desired outcomes? If so, the Alberta Blue Cross Corporate Communications team has an exciting opportunity for you.

The Corporate Communications department is a dynamic team of professionals managing public relations, media relations, issues management, crisis communications, special events and internal communications. Dedicated to excellence, team members are responsive, quality-driven and committed to high performance. Alberta Blue Cross’s Corporate Communications team follows communications best practices and has earned numerous awards for its outstanding work.

While this is a hybrid position and you may work from home or the office, you will be expected to be in person at certain meetings, corporate events, team gatherings and other key engagements, whether at the head office in Edmonton or at event locations around the province.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Reporting to the manager, Corporate Communications, the communications officer leads the development and implementation of communication strategies with a focus on employee-focused communications, media/public relations, issues and crisis management and special events in line with Alberta Blue Cross's vision, strategy and values. Some key responsibilities include the following:

  1. Develop and execute internal communication strategies.
  2. Write and edit content for internal newsletter, intranet and other internal mediums.
  3. Manage media relations including developing and distributing media releases and coordinating media inquiries and interviews.
  4. Assist with issues management and crisis communications.
  5. Plan and coordinate corporate events.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:

  1. University degree in communications or a degree in any field plus a diploma in public relations.
  2. Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience desired.
  3. Proven organizational, project management and time management abilities.
  4. Ability to think creatively and have excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  5. Knowledge of all areas in public relations including developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies and an understanding of the latest public relations and communications trends.
  6. Strong writing and presentation abilities.
  7. Ability to learn and effectively use various digital tools.
  8. Experience in events management is considered an asset.
  9. Understanding of current events, government and the health care industry are definite assets.
  10. Professional membership in CPRS or IABC is preferred.
Desired start date is May 1; however, this position will remain open until a suitable candidate is selected.
