Your role

CBC British Columbia is looking for a Communications Officer (Marketing, Events and Digital) to join the local Communications and Marketing team. The successful candidate will work with a team of other communication professionals in a fast-paced environment to execute a variety of marketing/communications strategies, projects and brand events to support CBC’s digital, radio and television programming. This position reports to the regional Senior Manager, Marketing and Communications, and requires someone with a passion for CBC, a flair and genuine joy for engaging with people, and a willingness to entertain a diversity of thought and connections.

The position is on-site with the option for hybrid work after 6 months.

Duties
  • Organising and working events both internally and externally, virtually and in person.
  • Implementing integrated marketing plans to promote our programming and the CBC brand across all platforms (Social, Digital, Radio, TV).
  • Executing fan engagement and outreach initiatives, brand activations and contesting, to foster ongoing relationships with audiences.
  • Writing, editing and producing internal staff communications/newsletters and content for cbc.ca/bc.
  • Creating, executing and posting creative social media content for established and emerging platforms. This may require photography and basic design skills.
  • Monitoring and executing digital campaigns, analyzing performance and optimizing content.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and departments to aid, brainstorm and bring to life creative campaigns that attract target audiences and foster engagement.
  • Developing, producing and scheduling promos for regional programs on Radio, TV, Web and social produced by regional stations, in accordance with network guidelines. If necessary, performing basic editing on radio promos.
  • Help develop contests and coordinate their organisation in tandem with management and programmers. Negotiate and, if necessary, draft the requisite agreements and protocols. Ensure that contests comply with legal requirements and program policies. Follow up with winners and partners.
  • Research, review and source suppliers for CBC branded promotional materials. Lead and coordinate orders, receiving and cataloguing.
  • Research information regarding special projects, new initiatives and perform administrative matters, including managing newsroom tours.
  • Work with Audience Relations to develop messaging in response to audience enquiries and reactions.
  • Manage the budget for communications activities.
  • Reply to and follow up on audience comments and requests, as needed.
  • Carry out all other related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience that demonstrates superior writing, editing and proofreading skills, a working knowledge of a wide range of communications and marketing materials, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to work under deadline pressures.
  • Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
  • Experience in community event logistics and brand activation execution.
  • Demonstrated customer service and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to take initiative and demonstrate creativity as well as good judgment.
  • Active and highly skilled on multiple Digital and Social Media platforms. Proficiency, understanding and a proven ability to write for different channels is required.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Google Suite tools (Docs, Drive, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Meet).
  • Eye for detail and a creative thinker.
  • Flexibility in work hours as operations demand, including the ability to work shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays, is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local CBC programming.
  • Knowledge of languages including but not limited to Mandarin, Tagalog, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, Spanish or any Indigenous languages is considered an asset.
  • Availability to travel for short periods if required.
  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or a university degree in Communications/Public Relations or Marketing, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
