Job description

Status: Full time, temporary, November 2026 to January 2028
Location: Ottawa or Toronto, Ontario (hybrid)
Closing date: September 16, 2026
Salary range: $80,390 to $98,250 per year

Canada’s Drug Agency (CDA-AMC) is a pan-Canadian health organization. We are an independent, not-for-profit organization with offices in Ottawa and Toronto. Created and funded by Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial governments, we drive better coordination, alignment, and public value within Canada’s drug, health technology, and health systems landscape. We provide health system leaders in Canada with independent evidence and advice, empowering them to make informed decisions about drugs, health technologies, and broader health system strategies and investments, and we collaborate with national and international partners to enhance our collective impact.

CDA-AMC was named one of the National Capital Region’s top employers for the third year in a row. This recognition celebrates our dedication to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment that nurtures growth and innovation. It reaffirms our ongoing efforts to create an outstanding workplace where our employees thrive and feel valued.

Hybrid work arrangement

At CDA-AMC, employees participate in a hybrid workspace arrangement that allows for flexibility and enhanced work‑life balance. We believe in the positive impact of in‑person collaboration and the importance of team building. This position follows a hybrid work schedule with a minimum of 2 days onsite, though this requirement may vary based on business and operational needs.

Primary focus

We are seeking to fill a current opening on our Communications team. Working as part of a collaborative Communications team, the Communications Officer will support a portfolio of work assigned by leadership, contributing to the development and delivery of integrated internal and external communications plans, products, and activities. Working closely with colleagues across CDA-AMC, the Officer will provide communications advice and create audience‑focused materials that support organizational priorities, projects, and initiatives.

Corporate communications at CDA-AMC are delivered by a team of professionals with expertise in internal, external, and digital communications. While team members may have areas of focus, everyone contributes across a range of communications activities and brings diverse skills to support the organization’s overall communications goals.

What do the daily responsibilities look like?
  • proactively work with internal subject matter experts to conceive and write audience-appropriate content for the corporate website, intranet, social media channels, events, and presentations aimed at diverse audiences
  • serve as the primary editorial strategist and writer for the intranet, using SharePoint to publish content and maintain a cohesive and engaging digital experience for employees
  • develop communications materials that help employees understand, adapt, and embrace new opportunities and ways of working
  • simplify the findings from complex reports into clear, compelling, and accessible content for technical and nontechnical audiences
  • coordinate, write, and distribute broadcast emails to subscribers and interested parties
  • establish objectives and implement tactics to clearly communicate the value of the work of CDA-AMC and the findings of high-profile reports and projects to pan-Canadian health system decision‑makers
  • provide communications support, advice, and updates, including analysis and recommendations, to the Communications Manager and/or Chief Communications Officer
  • incorporate best practices in search optimization and writing content for the web and other digital platforms that increase the readability and accessibility of CDA-AMC content
  • ensure the delivery of high-quality content with consistent audience-appropriate language by working in close collaboration with graphic designers, copy‑editors, translators, and digital publishing specialists
  • build and maintain a database of health system influencers — partner organizations, health care thought leaders, government departments and decision‑makers, academic groups, industry leaders, and others — to ensure that messages from CDA-AMC consistently reach intended audiences
  • contribute to the measurement, benchmarking, analysis, and reporting of the effectiveness of communications activities as well as analyze results to recommend improvements and expand the reach of CDA-AMC
  • uphold the reputation of CDA-AMC and align communications with visual identity and brand guidelines, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and French language requirements
  • support public affairs team members at CDA-AMC by collaborating with experts to prepare briefing notes and other necessary communications.
Is this the right role for you?
  • completed postsecondary education from a recognized academic institution in a related field, such as public relations, journalism, or communications, coupled with recent related experience, which is normally attained over a period of no less than 3 years; additional related experience may serve as a suitable equivalent for completion of postsecondary education
  • extensive experience researching, writing, editing, and producing corporate collateral
  • exceptional writing and editorial skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint, with demonstrated experience in site administration, content strategy, and overall intranet best practices and governance
  • a proven ability to work well under pressure and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • knowledge about social and traditional media, including LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook
  • a self-starting mindset with a natural curiosity to investigate details and drive deliverables to completion
  • the ability to adapt the complexity, tone, and style of communications to suit different audiences
  • a strategic mindset with an understanding of Canada’s health care environment and can connect and align content with organizational priorities and relevant external dynamics
  • an attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively, take initiative, and function well in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities
  • effective time management and prioritization skills
  • a proven ability to balance and deliver on multiple projects
  • experience establishing communications measures and plans, tracking results, and analyzing and reporting on outcomes.
What will set you apart?
  • fluency in French.
What’s in it for you?
  • a team-focused, supportive, and inclusive work environment
  • a competitive compensation package, including participation in a defined benefit pension plan with the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • a comprehensive benefits package for employees and dependents, including health, dental, life, and travel insurance; spending accounts to meet your health care and individual wellness needs; and an employee assistance program
  • generous paid time off (including a minimum of 4 weeks of vacation, paid sick leave and life leave, a December holiday closure, your birthday as a paid day off, and other leave options)
  • flexible hours and a hybrid work model that promotes work‑life balance
  • opportunities to work with and learn from highly specialized professionals
  • personal growth through professional development opportunities, corporate training, and support for continuing education
  • a friendly culture in which community engagement is supported and people’s efforts and important milestones are recognized
  • the opportunity to make a difference for people living in Canada and effect positive change.
