Job description

What will you be doing!

  • Supporting Integrated Waste Services in delivering consistent and frequent communication to CNL staff across CNL sites.
  • Working closely with Integrated Waste Services leadership and teams to determine the communications needs (stakeholder analysis and management plans) and working with leadership and waste teams to develop strategic communication plans to support implementation of waste process and improvement initiatives.
  • Providing line management with strategic advice on how communications can support achieving objectives.
  • Developing communications material for internal (waste staff) and external (Other CNL staff) audiences.
  • Working with leadership and waste teams to develop communications products and ensure the accuracy and quality of final content.
  • Writing and editing impactful communications products such as articles, website content, fact sheets, and presentations, translating technical/scientific concepts into plain language.
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining waste management MyCNL page/(s) (coordinating between multiple waste teams to share the right information, with a customer focus).
  • Serving as CNL Emergency Information Officer and supporting the Emergency Operations Centre during periods of activation, and training exercises.
  • Maintaining familiarity with CNL’s mass communications solutions and technologies and utilizing this for Waste Related emergent messaging (in conjunction with corporate communications).
  • Developing communications strategies and material to support emergency communications.
  • Supporting the execution of external visitors to Waste Management Facilities at CNL (in conjunction with corporate communication visits) and acting as the primary tour interface with senior representatives from customers, stakeholders, and governments.
  • Addressing requests from senior leaders to ensure the professional execution of site visits to the waste management-focused visits to the CNL sites.
  • Ensuring all regulatory and CNL internal processes are followed.
  • Establishing a communications calendar for Integrated Waste Services and coordinating the implementation of the communications calendar (including roadshows across CNL sites to share messaging) and creating Key Messaging in conjunction with Integrated Waste Services Leadership to support rollout of consistent messages.
  • Establishing effective real-time communication mechanisms to share emergent Waste Management related news bulletins with relevant stakeholders across CNL consistently.
  • Providing guidance to Project Managers and Managers on required communications activities to be built into plans and schedules during APWB planning.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Education
    • A university degree/college diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • Experience
    • Five (5) years of progressive experience in a business communications environment.
    • Experience developing and designing communications products, including fact sheets, media releases, newsletter articles, key messages, and online content for staff, public audiences, and media along with developing and implementing communication strategies, plans and tactics.
    • Experience working with technical/scientific subject matter experts to gather information to develop communications products and in change management communications preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
    • Ability to communicate complex technical/scientific information to lay audiences in clear, understandable language.
    • Ability to discuss sensitive subjects with stakeholders resulting in productive outcomes.
    • Ability to identify issues that require management attention in a timely manner.
    • Ability to develop communications strategies/plans to support the requirements of a public information program.
    • Knowledge and application of Adobe Create Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Valid G Ontario drivers license
    • Knowledge of public communications best practices and in a highly regulated industry such as nuclear.
    • Knowledge of working with a cross-functional project team.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
