Communications Manager
Annual Salary Range: $83,000 - $96,000
Note: This is a term position to March 31, 2026, with the possibility of a one-year extension to March 31, 2027.
Purpose
The Communications Manager develops and executes communications strategies to help inspire donations from new donors to the new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus. The incumbent manages communications projects of all sizes and collaborates with external vendors and colleagues across St. Paul’s Foundation.
Responsibilities
- Write, produce, promote and expand the Foundation’s Connect e-newsletter and non-donor communications as well as grow the subscriber list through owned, earned and paid digital channels as well create a new content strategy as we develop our user journeys
- Work with the other Marketing and Communications Manager to develop the Foundation’s content strategy through leading bi-annual review of analytics and KPI’s and lead brainstorm sessions with the Marketing & Communications Team plus other internal teams plus oversee execution which includes photography and video production assets
- Working with the Development and Donor Relations & Stewardship teams, write, edit, and project manage a wide range of materials, including gift announcements, cases for support, signage, advertising and brochures
- Oversee the editorial direction and production of the annual Promise magazine and seek opportunities to build further reach of this magazine
- Serve as the communications lead at special events, overseeing speaker management, media sponsorship contracts, visual presentations, and other tasks as needed
- Oversee on-site communications, such as billboards, collateral, and digital screens to promote St. Paul’s Foundation at St. Paul’s Hospital and other Providence Health Care sites
- Work with internal teams and external service providers such as graphic designers, printers, and freelance writers to produce print and digital materials, ensuring quality control and brand consistency is maintained
- Provide advice and support to Foundation staff on communications and marketing projects
- Stay up-to-date with current best practices for editorial and content strategy
Qualifications
- Six or more years of progressively senior communications experience, preferably in a non-profit or agency environment
- Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism
- Stellar interviewing, writing and editing skills, preferably in a fundraising context
- In depth experience in creating email content in Mailchimp and management of email subscriber tactics required
- Relevant experience developing content strategy to apply to user journeys and implementation of that strategy preferred
- Experience managing event Communications including speaker notes, speaker management, visual presentations and key messaging
- High degree of proficiency in project management and proven ability to manage timelines, teams, and supplier relationships to deliver results on time and within budget
- Detail-oriented and accurate in execution, with experience collaborating with media, graphic designers and writers on complex communication pieces
- Understanding of branding, graphic design, and print and web production principles and best practices an asset
- Ability to contribute to and participate in a positive work environment with professionalism and a service-oriented attitude
- Highly computer-literate with excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Sound judgment and tact, and ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion
