Job description

Reporting to the Executive Director and CEO of PSBAA, the Communications Manager leads the strategic development, execution, implementation and evaluation of organization-wide communications activities.

The incumbent will be passionate about creating and communicating value for the Association’s members, while constantly looking for new ways to improve the overall member experience for individual public school board trustees who serve on member K-12 public school boards in Alberta.

The position is also responsible for executing the Association’s public relations strategy, including building brand awareness and reputation, and driving conversation. A collaborative, proactive and engaging approach is essential for success in this role.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Experience and familiarity with the K-12 education system in Alberta.
  2. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to drive cross-functional deadlines consistently.
  3. Experience in event management and securing relevant speakers for Trustee professional development.
  4. Strong media relations skills and media relationships.
  5. Bachelor degree in Communications, Journalism, English/Arts or a related degree.
  6. Minimum five - seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications, media relations and issues management with in-depth knowledge of internal and external communications methods, marketing and social media strategy and planning.
  7. Certification in Communications or Public Relations is an asset.
  8. Working knowledge of WordPress.
  9. Natural storyteller with excellent writing skills and outstanding verbal communications skills who proactively researches relevant content.
  10. Excellent analytical skills and ability to make data-driven decisions and evaluate results. Familiarity with specific programs is an asset.

Working Hours: 35 hours per week - Overtime for special events and conferences.

Applicants who do not fully meet the qualifications may be offered a role at a lower level.
