Your opportunity:
The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology is among the oldest in North America. We offer training in pharmacology and toxicology to both undergraduate and graduate students who may subsequently go on to do exciting research, regulatory and administrative careers in academic, industrial, and healthcare provision settings.

As a Communications Assistant, you will work closely with the Communications team to support marketing and communication strategies. You will contribute to digital media communications including producing promotional and outreach materials, ensuring that the content is consistent with UofT's brand identity guidelines. You will have the opportunity to support impactful programs and contribute to marketing, communication, and digital media strategies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting marketing and outreach strategies by formatting/maintaining communication templates and writing routine documents and correspondence
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Resolving issues within the scope of the role, escalating problems as required, and following rules and procedural instructions when creating, maintaining and/or deactivating user accounts
  • Contributing to digital media communications by producing promotional and outreach materials, ensuring content is consistent with brand identity guidelines, editing content for style and tone, proofreading and fact-checking, and formatting layout of online information
  • Preparing schedules for the release of pre-planned social media content, tracking/monitoring digital communications activities, collecting digital assets for online platform use, and disseminating information via social media
  • Verifying that websites are compliant with the University's web space guide, verifying that links to all related websites are up-to-date, and customizing website according to objectives or user feedback
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms and updating/maintaining photographic records

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum two years of related experience with supporting communications activities
  • Proven experience with producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Experience preparing social media release schedules
  • Experience formatting and maintaining communication templates
  • Experience serving as the first point of contact, fielding inquiries, and directing incoming media inquiries
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office Suite, content management systems and experience with new/emerging media and information technology
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to foster positive relations in a decentralized environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines
