A leading organization is seeking a Communications Coordinator to enhance its communication efforts. Grand Chiefs Office (GCO)

Full-Time Appointment

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working in collaboration with the Communications Team, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of communication functions.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  • Support Grand Chief for events and travel itinerary.
  • Support Grand Chief by providing videography and photography assistance with all events.
  • Serve as AMC primary videographer and photographer for the creation of all promotion and digital media requirements.
  • Responsible for all photographic and video content from start to finish including capturing content and editing.
  • Curate a strong gallery of images and video content which will be used to reflect the AMC in marketing and press.
  • Provide graphic design support.
  • Use of various media including graphics, animations, data visualization, music and voice overs to create professional grade content.
  • Coordinate all activities and materials supporting each photographic and video shoot project.
  • Film videos on location.
  • Ensure all equipment is present and working.
  • Work closely with the communications team to ensure efficiency and maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Produce, prepare, and coordinate for publication a variety of information and material intended to promote the work of the AMC, and increase its profile with its many audiences, including the AMC annual report.
  • Provide presentations and other communications for the Grand Chief and senior managers of the AMC as requested.
  • Publicize through a variety of communication methods, success stories, goals and objectives through the lobbying efforts of the Grand Chief’s office.
  • Performs special duties and projects related to communications as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Journalism, Public Relations, Creative Communications. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Journalism and public relations skills with strong multi-tasking ability.
  • Excellent knowledge of photography/videography within the digital domain.
  • Must display excellent technical and photographic skills.
  • Must display passion for both photographic and video content and commitment to holding editorial integrity.
  • Experience with industry standard editing tools and asset management software.
  • Must have excellent IT skills especially with computer programs such as photoshop, Adobe, lightroom, photo mechanic.
  • Graphic design experience.
  • Proven experience creating targeted content.
  • Proven social media and network expertise.
  • Proficient with editing software and camera equipment.
  • Experience with event coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of First Nations communities and a firm understanding of First Nations citizens living on and off reserve.
  • Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Clear understanding of target audiences, and appreciation for the mission of the AMC Grand Chiefs Office.
  • Ability to develop written communication without the use of Chat GPT and other AI platforms.
  • Experience working with media.
  • Demonstrated experience in a variety of writing disciplines, including language and culture.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and analytic tools, website design software, graphics/editing software and other relevant software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work co-operatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Political acumen and able to be discreet when dealing with sensitive information.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, with the ability to work extended shifts, evenings and weekends as required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
