Description
This position is responsible for developing, implementing and assessing communications, community engagement and community investment strategies and tactics to create understanding and connections among Calgary Co-op's stakeholders. Provide exceptional planning and activation of both internal and external promotions, special events and sponsorships.
Responsibilities : Communications :
- Implement plans, narratives and materials that promote and communicate programs, partnerships, and events
- Develop messaging in support of programs, partnerships and events
- Assist with corporate content, social media and earned media strategy
- Research and write engaging content including internal updates, website content, social media content, news releases, backgrounders, speaking notes and key messages
- Provide support with media inquiries and media relations
- Support with issues management strategy and related tactics
Community :
- Develop and maintain positive relationships and programs with community partners
- Identify and engage potential community partners that can assist, to achieve its goals and mission through review of sponsorship and other community investment opportunities
- Seek opportunities to enhance relationships with existing community partners
- Create programs and initiatives that create measurable and mutually beneficial outcomes
- Provide representation at community events
Events and Sponsorships :
- Manage and execute successful internal and external events
- In concert with internal partners, manage a variety of events and meetings for internal and external audiences. These include but are not limited to the Grape Escape Festival, the Annual Calgary Co-op Golf Tournament, community events, and Vendor Summits etc.
- Support marketing with seasonal campaigns
- Manage third party ticket sales
- Plan and manage to event budgets
- Recruit, train and oversee volunteers for events and other activities
OTHER
- Participate in the development and action of yearly competency performance work plan(s) and development action plan(s).
- Provide leadership in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), including participate in HSE activities, ensuring employees are knowledgeable about and comply with HSE policies, procedures and legislation, assist in identifying unhealthy, unsafe situations and ensure corrective action is taken.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing or Journalism or similar educational background
- Three (3) years of progressive, relevant experience in communications and community investments or community engagement roles
- Experience developing comprehensive communications strategies in support of business goals
- Experience with media and media relations
- Experience in planning and executing events including developing work plans, timelines and responsible for event logistics while managing to the event budget
- Proficiency with computers including social media channels, Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- A calm and professional demeanor
- Enjoys interacting with the public
- Impeccable writing skills for a number or formats and both internal and external audiences
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Available to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Must have access to a vehicle and a clean driving record
- Able to work independently under minimal supervision
Desirable Qualifications :
- Five+ years (5) of progressive, relevant experience in communications and community investments or community engagement roles
- Builds / nurtures / fosters relationships & organization-wide perspective
- A drive for improving and challenging status quo
