Job Summary
The UBC Faculty of Medicine, through its Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME), provides postgraduate medical training in 74 Royal College and 2 Family Medicine training programs in addition to a growing portfolio of Area of Focused Competence (AFC) Fellowship programs. The programs span multiple training sites and are distributed to clinical academic campuses and affiliated regional centers across the province. To accommodate the government funded increase in MD undergraduate graduates, the PGME program has been increasing the number of residents accepted into its programs. Since 2003 the number of residents has grown from 700 to more than 1500 in 2025.
The Communications Assistant, Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME)will assist in the implementation and coordination of PGME communications activities. This includes handling daily communications on various platforms (WordPress, SharePoint and other UBC systems) as well as assisting in communications projects in service of the Department’s strategic goals. The work requires a detailed understanding of PGME, its priorities and key activities, academic programs, and the interests of stakeholders, together with an ability to profile postgraduate medical education and its activities in a clear and appropriate format to multiple audiences.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in the PGME office in Vancouver, BC and via hybrid work from home arrangements.
Organizational Status
This position reports directly to the Communications Specialist, PGME and is expected to work independently with minimal guidance. The incumbent will also receive direction from the Infrastructure and Operations Manager, PGME. This position will interact with Residents, Program Directors, Program/PGME Staff, Faculty of Medicine and UBC Communications departments.

The individual reports to and works under the direction of the Communications Specialist, PGME under the supervision of the Infrastructure and Operations Manager, PGME as well as PGME Senior Leadership. Works independently under general supervision.

None. May explain work procedures to new, temporary staff, students and/or volunteers.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation, plus a two-year post-secondary education, plus three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
