This posting is to fill one permanent full-time position, working 75 hours bi-weekly.

Elections Yukon is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly responsible for all matters relating to the administration of territorial, school board and school council elections as well as other related electoral activities.

The mission is for organizational readiness, voter-centric service excellence, and the delivery of fair. compliant, and impartial elections that foster public trust and promote electoral participation.

The opportunity…

The Communications and Training Coordinator assists with the administration and coordination of internal and external communications projects and services for Elections Yukon. This role acts as a central point of coordination, preparing managing dates, version control, tracking and project plans to ensure that communications are delivered on time and as planned.

The Communications and Training Coordinator assists the team with the operational readiness for territorial, school board, and school council elections and by-elections as well as other less frequent electoral activities such as municipal elections, school referendums, plebiscites, and boundary commissions. This position administers the training, and the administration of returning officers and field teams.

  • Completion of post-secondary education in public administration, or related disciplines
  • Experience drafting, writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting communication materials such as presentations, media responses and other related activities.
  • Experience working within an electoral administration or a parliamentary institution with an understanding of legislation and statutory processes
  • Experience leading projects, drafting manuals, guides, forms and working with complex processes and administrative procedures
  • Experience working with various software applications and strong computer skills

To best support the achievement of key strategic and business objectives, candidates may be assessed on:

  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and best practices in parliamentary governance and management accountability frameworks, including ability to acquire knowledge of the role and responsibilities of the committees of the Legislative Assembly
  • Procedural, analytical, communications and strategic planning skills
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of and interrupt relevant legislation, regulations and government policies, such as the Elections Act, and Education Act.
  • Superior writing and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to use a wide range of computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Individual and team management skills

Conditions Of Employment

  • Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license.

Employment Requirements

  • Occasional travel within and outside of the Yukon
