Title: Communications and Design Specialist

Classification: IFA Project Officer

Employment: Permanent

Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE - 38 hours per week, 8.30am - 5.00pm

Salary: $59,700 – $75,000

Reports to: Director, Communications

International Federation on Ageing (IFA)

The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) is an international non-governmental organization with a membership base of NGOs, the corporate sector, academia, government, and individuals spanning 76 countries. The IFA has formal relations with the United Nations and the World Health Organization.

Position Overview

The Communications and Design Specialist play a key role in shaping and amplifying the IFA’s voice through compelling visual storytelling. This position is responsible for designing and producing high-quality digital and print assets, creating engaging video content, and supporting the organization’s social media presence. As part of the communications team, the Specialist transforms complex ideas and impact stories into accessible, inspiring visuals that resonate with diverse audiences, including decision makers, partners, donors and community stakeholders.

Roles and Responsibilities
Graphic Design and Visual Assets
  • Develop creative concepts and design digital and print materials such as reports, infographics, toolkits, social media graphics, presentations, and event collateral.
  • Skilled in Figma for UI/UX workflows and web design projects.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all visual communications, ensuring alignment with organizational identity and messaging.
  • Support campaign and fundraising initiatives with eye‑catching, audience‑focused designs.
Video Production and Editing
  • Support in planning and editing short‑ and long‑form videos that highlight the organization’s programs, people, and impact.
  • Create video content optimized for web and social media platforms, using storytelling techniques to connect emotionally with viewers.
  • Manage post‑production elements, including graphics, sound, and captions, to deliver polished final products.
Impact Storytelling
  • Collaborate with Policy and Advocacy staff to translate data, stories, recommendations into compelling visual narratives.
  • Develop infographics and multimedia that bring the organization’s mission and impact to life.
  • Ensure storytelling reflects the voices, dignity, and agency of the communities served.
Digital Communications and Social Media
  • Design creative content for social media platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) to grow engagement and visibility.
  • Work with team members to align visual content with editorial calendars and campaign strategies.
  • Draft and edit newsletters, announcements, and web copy that reflect the organization’s voice and tone.
  • Track performance of visual assets across platforms to refine creative strategies.
Project and Organizational Support
  • Support the Communications Director with project tracking, content scheduling, and internal communications.
  • Participate in team brainstorming sessions and contribute ideas for innovative outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, media production, marketing, or related field or combination of relevant experience and training.
  • 3–5 years of experience in graphic design and multimedia content creation.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro/After Effects).
  • Demonstrated skills in both print and digital design, with a portfolio showcasing prior work.
  • Proven experience in video production and editing for a range of platforms.
  • Ability to craft equity‑centred visual content that communicates impact and engages diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for working collaboratively in a team environment while also taking initiative on independent projects.

Preferred

  • Experience with social media strategy and content scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite).
  • Experience with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact or Mailchimp.
  • Experience working in nonprofit or mission‑driven organizations.
  • Interest or experience in aging, public health, or non‑profit communications.
Location

The IFA office is based in Toronto, and follow a hybrid work model with one in‑office day per week. Fully remote arrangements will be considered for exceptional candidates located outside the Greater Toronto Area, with occasional travel required for team meetings or events.
