Communications and Change Management Specialist

Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), this position will work closely with leadership to support the rollout of key safety programs and cultural transformation efforts by developing plans, crafting messaging, supporting adoption, and making the strategy tangible at every level of the organization. You will help integrate our strategic safety plan into field operations and corporate systems alike, ensuring it’s understood, embraced, and sustained. This is a 9-month contract position, with the possibility of an extension based on project needs and performance.
How You’ll Add Value
- Lead internal communication and engagement plans that support the rollout of our company-wide safety transformation strategy
- Support the creation and delivery of toolkits, rollout plans, and adoption tracking tools
- Develop compelling communications tailored to operations teams, field staff, and executives alike
- Partner with HSE, Operations, People & Culture, and Communications to ensure alignment and momentum
- Translate big-picture strategy into clear, actionable initiatives and storytelling
- Help facilitate organizational readiness and reduce resistance through strong messaging and involvement that drives buy-in
- Gather feedback from supervisors and field leaders to understand challenges and refine messaging
- Help leaders deliver messages that connect with and motivate their teams
- Drive consistency, harmonization, and best practices across divisions while tracking progress and managing risks
- Align training activities with communication efforts to create a unified approach
- Support new program launches (e.g., near-miss program, hazard assessment evolution, leadership development in safety)
- Capture and share successes, early wins, and lessons learned
- Build tools and materials that support rollout and adoption across all business units
- Collaborate with IT and communications teams to deploy messaging through various systems and channels
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
Qualifications & Experience
- 7+ years of experience in internal communications, change management, program coordination, or a related field
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Organizational Development, Business, or a related field is an asset
- Strong understanding of change management principles (e.g., ADKAR, Kotter, or equivalent frameworks)
- Proven track record supporting organizational transformation efforts and delivering enterprise-wide initiatives—ideally in construction or service-based industries
- Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas and connect with frontline workers and senior leaders alike
- Experience translating strategy into rollout plans, toolkits, and communications that drive adoption
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrixed environment and influence without authority
- Comfortable extracting ideas and plans from leadership and transforming them into structured, shareable content
- Willingness to travel between Calgary, Lethbridge, and Fort McMurray (day trips or occasional overnight), and spend time on-site at construction locations
- Strong technical skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Suite, and the ability to learn and leverage digital tools across platforms
