We are looking for a temporary exempt full-time Communications Advisor for approximately 2 years

  • to provide professional communications advisory services and administrative support to the Mayor’s Office.

In this role, you will :

  • Support the Mayor’s Office in designing, planning and implementing communications strategies;
  • Prioritise and follow up on issues and concerns addressed to the Mayor’s Office, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature;
  • Prepare briefing documents for meetings, presentations and speeches;
  • Assist with communication from the Mayor’s Office to internal and external audiences;
  • Serves as a liaison to the Communications Department, providing strategic direction for content that includes the Mayor as the City’s primary spokesperson; ensures alignment and consistency across platforms and initiatives;
  • Manages and curates the Mayor’s official social media presence;
  • Coordinate and schedule public outreach activities and events;
  • Attend public events with the Mayor and organize communication following the events.

This position requires an individual with a high degree of integrity, diplomacy and discretion in managing confidential and sensitive documents and information. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and strong interpersonal skills are required. You must have the ability to interact effectively with internal and external interest holders. Exceptional attention to detail, flexibility and an enthusiastic attitude are essential.

You will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science or relevant discipline, with at least 5 years’ related senior administrative experience and involvement in managing social media content, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a local government environment would be an asset. The demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate a variety of tasks and assignments is also required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, together with a working knowledge of an electronic Records Management System would be beneficial.

We offer an attractive remuneration and benefits package for this exempt position, including a compressed work schedule. The salary range is $92,712 - $109,056 annually (2024 rates). Salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity. During the recruitment process, applicants will be requested to provide a current Police Information Check (PIC).
