The Communications Advisor, External Communications, will join the dynamic Communications & Public Affairs (CPA) team at SickKids, contributing to external communications activities that highlight SickKids' role as a leader in children's health nationally and globally.

Reporting to the Manager, External Communications & Public Affairs, and working closely with colleagues, the successful candidate will promote understanding of SickKids' values and strategic priorities through social media, media relations, and multimedia content development.

Here's What You'll Do

  • Conduct daily and real-time media monitoring and produce reports;
  • Perform social media monitoring and community management, escalate issues, and respond to messages;
  • Respond to media requests;
  • Organize or supervise interviews, photo / video / media shoots, and events;
  • Manage social media requests and content from internal clients;
  • Interview and obtain consent from patients and families for content, stories, or events;
  • Attend events across SickKids to capture photos / videos for social media;
  • Create original content with patients and families for SickKids channels and engage with user-generated content;
  • Develop and write web stories and social media posts, and coordinate multimedia content development;
  • Create high-impact social media content including videos, photos, graphics, and captions for platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube;
  • Stay updated on social media trends, explore new channels, and seek engagement opportunities;
  • Conduct research and fact-checking for storytelling and initiatives;
  • Track and report social media analytics proactively and upon request.

Here's What You'll Need

  • Degree / diploma in communications, public relations, social / digital media, journalism, or marketing;
  • 1-2 years of experience in communications, social media, or media;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with visual awareness. Proofreading and familiarity with Canadian Press style are assets;
  • Knowledge of social media channels including Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and Bluesky;
  • Understanding of current events and media landscape;
  • Sound judgment, strategic thinking, troubleshooting skills, and ability to handle sensitive information;
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships internally and externally;
  • Team player with collaborative skills;
  • Passion for healthcare, quick learning ability, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
