Communication Line Technician

Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.

Work site environment: Outdoors, at heights.

Work setting: Installation, maintenance, repair at a telecommunications company across various locations.

Tasks include:

  1. Install and maintain aerial and underground telephone equipment.
  2. Test equipment to locate transmission faults.
  3. Install trunking systems, circuits, and equipment.
  4. Determine the nature, cause, and location of trouble.
  5. Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders, or other support structures.
  6. Splice, join, and connect wires.
  7. Repair or replace defective telephone equipment.

Additional information:

  • Willing to travel.
  • Work conditions: Fast-paced, tight deadlines, attention to detail, repetitive tasks, physical demand including bending, crouching, kneeling, manual dexterity, and a combination of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Own tools/equipment required: Steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses/goggles.
  • Personal qualities: Flexibility, judgment, organized, reliable.
  • Experience: 1 to less than 2 years.
  • Location: Surrey, BC, on-site work.
  • Salary: $37.10 per hour for 40 hours per week.
  • Terms: Permanent, full-time, with shifts including day, evening, weekend, early morning, and morning.
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
