Job Description
Crown is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Communications Electronics Installation Technician to join our team and play a key role in our floating electronics installation crew. This is a 100% travel position, requiring assignment to various geographical locations within the United States, often aligning with FAA regional boundaries. This role involves installing complete communications facilities, requiring a craftsman with a strong understanding of electronics and communications systems, physical installation skills, and leadership potential. The position offers growth opportunities and interfaces with the FAA and installation teams.
Responsibilities
- Participate in and potentially lead a floating communications installation crew.
- Travel 100% of the time to various job sites across the United States.
- Possess knowledge of VHF and UHF radio software and alignment.
- Setup capability for Radio Control Equipment (RCE).
- Connect Telco requirements (Commercial Telco, RCL, Field Cable, Fiber Optics, etc.).
- Take electronic baseline readings and generate paperwork, including FRDF, per FAA guidelines.
- Interface with FAA Air Traffic and Technical Operations during radio installations.
- Follow engineering packages and perform field modifications as needed.
- Provide guidance to installation and construction crew members on-site.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Understand electrical and electronic circuitry implications.
- Interpret engineering diagrams and wiring schematics.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment related to radio projects.
- Perform installation tasks: mounting antennas, running cables, grounding, surge protection, wiring, equipment rack installation, cable tray and conduit setup, ensuring proper infrastructure.
- Work confidently in isolated geographic locations, solving on-site challenges.
- Participate in pre-installation meetings, remove old equipment, coordinate outages, and install new radios and GFE.
- Perform electronics testing procedures.
Typical work days are Monday to Thursday, 6 AM - 4:30 PM.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or 2-year certification in a relevant field, with at least 2 years of experience.
- Experience in installing and maintaining VHF/UHF ground-to-air communication equipment.
- Familiarity with FAA NAS systems, cabling, and equipment.
- Setup capability for Radio Control Equipment (RCE).
- Understanding of Telco requirements.
- Ability to take electronic baseline readings and generate FAA documentation.
- Ability to read schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams.
- Proficiency with Windows and MS Office.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs, move objects up to 350 lbs with equipment, work at heights over 60 feet, and perform under time constraints.
- Good physical condition, able to pass fitness assessments if required.
- Team player, U.S. citizen, valid driver’s license, able to obtain security clearance, and able to work non-standard hours.
Preferred Skills
- Spectrum Analyzer, Time-domain reflectometer, Signal Generator, Oscilloscope.
- Experience with Microwave and Voice Switch systems, Air Traffic control systems.
- Possession of a CDL and experience with heavy equipment.
Rate Range: $20.00 - $49.00/hr on W2.
