Position Details

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Communication and Sports Information Lead is responsible for leading and executing communication strategies for Pronghorn Athletics and Horns Recreation. The position provides leadership for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns and Horns Recreation brand. This position also showcases the successes of Pronghorn student-athletes, coaches, alumni and community, as well as university programs, recreation facilities, fitness and wellness classes, and student initiatives across platforms including media advisories, web, print, newsletters, radio marketing, online marketing, sponsorships, as well as ongoing engagement with community organizations.

The position is responsible for uploading the results, collaborating and reporting to the Canada West conference and with colleagues and professionals at other institutions, sharing stories, providing technical direction for the Canada West conference broadcast, promoting University of Lethbridge student-athletes for recognition at the conference and national level through nominating student-athletes for awards.

The role helps generate revenue through building relationships and executing sponsorship deliverables, communicating with local, provincial, and national media outlets. This role also manages, promotes and produces content, creating digital and video assets, authoring stories and recaps and coordinating social media for Pronghorn Athletics and Horns Recreation.

Position Qualifications

  • 2-4 Years Experience in sports communication.
  • Ability to build strong relations with stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Ability to share information in an effective and collaborative manner.
  • Ability to adapt and respond to a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills, written, oral and digital.
  • Ability to develop engaging digital content including video and graphics.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of multi-media applications.
  • Solid sports background.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to leverage social media to engage and communicate effectively.

Preferred

Bachelor degree or education in Communications, Sport and Recreation or Management.
