What Is The Opportunity?

Aecon is proactively seeking aCommissioning & Handover Directorto join the Urban Transportations Solutions group to support future dynamic, transit projects in Canada. The Commissioning & Handover Director will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of a major transit infrastructure project. This opportunity involves leading a dedicated team to oversee the comprehensive commissioning, and seamless handover of all systems and components. The Director will coordinate with civil and third-party contractors, develop and review commissioning plans, and ensure all activities meet stringent safety, quality, and regulatory standards. With a focus on integrating schedules, managing resources, and providing expert technical oversight, this role is essential for transitioning the project from construction to full operational status, ensuring reliability and efficiency in the transit system.

What You Will Do Here:

  • Lead the commissioning and handover team, providing direction and oversight to ensure all activities are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop and implement detailed commissioning and handover plans, including schedules, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to quality standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and regulatory bodies, to ensure seamless integration and communication throughout the commissioning process.
  • Coordinate with civil and third-party contractors while developing commissioning plans.
  • Integrate the commissioning schedule for systems and civil commissioning.
  • Develop cutover and migration plans for system integration purposes.
  • Lead the monthly Testing and Commissioning meetings with the client and stakeholders.
  • Develop and/or review test procedures for all disciplines involved in a transit infrastructure project.
  • Ensure all work packages have adequate resources and manage workload forecasts for commissioning activities.
  • Review drawings and make recommendations concerning constructability, reliability, and maintainability for civil and systems deliveries.
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise during commissioning and handover, ensuring minimal impact on project timelines and quality.
  • Maintain inventory of spare materials.
  • Sort and order all tags, tag lists, and pull sheets.
  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation, including test plans, procedures, reports, and handover certificates.
  • Prepare and submit reports as required regarding the commissioning process and execution.
  • Provide training and support to operational staff to ensure they are fully prepared to manage and maintain the commissioned systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are conducted in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.

What You Bring To The Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in design, construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of vehicles, systems, equipment, and facilities of similar scope and complexity on a multi-million-dollar scale.
  • Previous work experience as a design engineer, project engineer, system engineer/integrator is a plus.
  • Previous work experience, either directly or indirectly, representing clients, operating organizations, or transit infrastructure delivery entities within Canada.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
  • Working experience with Transit Infrastructure related Testing and Commissioning standards.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and standards used in the construction of railway systems.
  • Ability to interpret contract specifications.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of testing and commissioning processes.
  • Proficiency in testing and commissioning management software and tools.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
  • Collaborative approach with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in French and English is required (oral and written).
