Job summary

Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture in Oakville, ON, seeks a Commissioning Coordinator to plan, coordinate, execute and document testing and commissioning for a major rail and transit infrastructure project. You will work with civil, mechanical, electrical, and rail teams to ensure proper turnover and acceptance.

Education: Diploma or degree in Engineering or related field; 3–7+ years in commissioning or construction coordination.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology/Construction Management or equivalent.
  • 3–7+ years of experience supporting testing, commissioning, construction coordination, systems integration, or project closeout activities.
  • Experience on major infrastructure, transportation, rail, transit projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities across civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and rail systems.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules, turnover documentation, and test records.
  • Review drawings, specs, and vendor data to confirm commissioning requirements.
  • Support implementation of the commissioning plan, procedures, and turnover needs.
  • Ensure activities comply with safety, quality standards and project codes.

Oakville GO station provides critical transport infrastructure and requires improvements and modernization to support an increased number of passengers and enhance operational performance of the network. The project will include station building upgrades, upgraded platform works, accessibility improvements and parking lot improvements.

The Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture (KMJV) has been awarded the construction manager contract to help inform the detailed design, and provide construction management advice, for upgrades to Oakville GO station during the project development stage.

Commissioning Coordinator

The Commissioning Coordinator will support the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of testing and commissioning activities for a major rail and transit infrastructure project.

How you will contribute to the team
  • Coordinate testing and commissioning activities across civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, communications, life‑safety, and rail‑related systems.
  • Support the development and implementation of the project’s commissioning plan, procedures, schedules, checklists, and turnover requirements.
  • Work closely with construction teams, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and client representatives to ensure commissioning activities are properly planned and executed.
  • Review drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, shop drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and other technical documentation to confirm commissioning requirements.
  • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules, system completion trackers, testing logs, deficiency lists, and turnover documentation.
  • Coordinate pre‑functional inspections, equipment start‑up, functional performance testing, integrated systems testing, and final acceptance activities.
  • Verify that installed systems and equipment are complete, accessible, properly labelled, and ready for testing and commissioning.
  • Monitor commissioning progress and identify risks, delays, deficiencies, and outstanding prerequisites that may impact project milestones.
  • Coordinate the resolution of commissioning deficiencies and confirm corrective actions are completed and properly documented.
  • Support the preparation and tracking of inspection and test plans, test reports, commissioning records, certificates, and system acceptance documentation.
  • Coordinate required shutdowns, permits, access, inspections, and testing activities within active rail or transit environments.
  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with approved procedures, project specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Assist with the collection, review, and organization of operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, asset information, as‑built drawings, and closeout documentation.
  • Support system turnover, substantial completion, final acceptance, and transition into operations and maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records of commissioning activities and provide regular progress updates to project leadership.
Education and Experience
  • Diploma or degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Building Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–7+ years of experience supporting testing, commissioning, construction coordination, systems integration, or project closeout activities.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, transportation, rail, transit, institutional, or complex building projects is preferred.
  • Experience working on Metrolinx, transit authority, or active rail corridor projects is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning processes, including pre‑functional inspections, start‑up, functional testing, integrated testing, deficiency management, and system turnover.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem‑solving, coordination, and follow‑up abilities.
  • Experience with commissioning, document‑control, or construction‑management platforms is considered an asset.

Salary Range: Between $75,000 - $100,000, depending on experience
