Job description

Aviva Canada Inc. has an excellent opportunity in our Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) commercial insurance business unit. The Greater Toronto Branch (GTB) is seeking a Commercial Lines Property and Casualty (P&C) Junior/Intermediate Underwriter. In this position, you will service a substantial portfolio of commercial P&C business requiring a demonstrated underwriting ability and a commitment to customer service excellence, in a fast-paced environment. You will be involved in the underwriting of P&C accounts $7,500+ in premium across all segments of our SME business.

What You’ll Do:

  1. Assess and evaluate risk for new business and/or existing business.
  2. Apply corporate underwriting standards and share knowledge and skills with others in the branch.
  3. Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating.
  4. Maintain awareness of market trends, pricing levels, and policy form amendments.
  5. Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process.
  6. Respond to inquiries from brokers regarding modifications to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.
  7. Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio.
  8. Provide excellent customer service.

What You’ll Bring:

  1. 3+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience.
  2. CIP in progress or completed is preferred.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Strong organizational and administration skills.
  5. Highly motivated and enthusiastic.
  6. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  7. Good computer skills.
  8. Ability to meet challenging deadlines and perform effectively under pressure.
  9. Knowledge of RTM system is an asset.
