Job description

Position Summary

The Commercial Portfolio Manager provides a positive customer experience by managing client relationships using the full suite of Busey products and services. They maintain a compliant and clean book of business in partnership with the credit and loan coordination teams. The Portfolio Manager supports the bank's relationship management efforts through preliminary financial analyses needed for credit decisions, contributing input to the loan decision process based on key factors. The Portfolio Manager reports to the Market President or a Relationship Manager II.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage relationships and borrowers proactively within their loan portfolio to ensure adherence to credit policy, including performing preliminary financial analysis, addressing industry risks, collateral requirements, loan structuring, and pricing.
  • Interact independently with customers to address routine and non-routine client servicing and risk-related matters.
  • Prepare call plans and relationship reviews for individual and joint calls with prospects, clients, and COIs.
  • Identify and refer opportunities to other business lines and departments.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external clients regarding sensitive and routine matters.
  • Engage in external networking and community involvement.
  • Make presentations on specific loans and participate in the bank's loan approval process.
  • Provide approval recommendations based on credit structure fundamentals.
  • Grow existing relationships by increasing borrowings, deposits, cash management, and cross-selling into Wealth Management and Personal Banking.
  • Negotiate credit transactions.
  • Service existing customer relationships to maximize profitability.
Education & Experience

Knowledge of:

  • Strong understanding of credit fundamentals, loan structuring and monitoring, bank policy, and compliance.
  • Needs-based sales and customer service skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Abilities:

  • Gather pertinent information and make recommendations for new opportunities.
  • Stay informed on industry and market trends.
  • Analyze and interpret numerical data.
  • Perform duties under frequent interruptions and time pressures.

Education and Training:

  • Requires a 4-year college degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Requires 5+ years of banking, finance, or sales-related experience.
  • At least 3 years' experience in credit analysis or underwriting is preferred.
