Job description

What is the opportunity?

As the Commercial Manager, you will be leading a Commercial Management team and play a key role in the successful delivery of projects by managing their administrative and commercial activities, client relationships, and optimizing financial performance while ensuring compliance with Entuitive and industry standards and client requirements.

You will work closely with corporate management, project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain Commercial Management Plans that govern project financial, contractual, and risk-mitigating strategies for complex transportation infrastructure projects. This is a key role in maintaining the reputation of Entuitive as a trusted partner within our client and consulting engineering community.

  • Lead the development and implementation of commercial management strategies, plans and processes to maximize project and corporate success in alignment with industry standards, Entuitive policies and goals, and client requirements.
  • Establish and implement commercial management governance frameworks to monitor contract compliance and financial performance.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Commercial Management Plans to govern project financial, contractual, and risk strategies with integrated commercial processes across all project phases.
  • Build and lead a commercial management team that includes purchasing and procurement coordinators, construction and design services contract specialists, project accountants, and financial analysts.
  • Define corporate roles, responsibilities, and escalation procedures for commercial activities.
  • Interface and coordinate with legal advisors, project managers, risk managers, schedulers, senior Entuitive management, contractors, stakeholders, and clients to report and advise on commercial performance, and making recommendations to ensure project success.
  • Review and approve commercial contracts, project bonding and insurance requirements, JV and partnership agreements, and project-specific strategic plans and budgets.
  • Lead and collaborate on claims and dispute management and negotiations with clients, contractors, lenders, and other stakeholders.
  • Raise awareness with project teams and staff of the importance of early establishment of project contractual arrangements and agreements in compliance with Entuitive standards.
  • Assist with external audits, conduct internal audits, and perform contract reviews to identify compliance issues, mitigate risks, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Maintain strong up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and commercial regulatory requirements.
  • Support business development efforts by advising on commercial management issues and evaluating opportunities in bid proposals.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, training, and performance reviews for the Commercial Management team.

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Construction Law, Finance, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a commercial management role within the consulting engineering, construction, or transportation infrastructure sectors.
  • Deep understanding of alternative project delivery methods such as Progressive Design-Build, Alliance, Design Build, CMAR, Design-Build-Finance, and P3 and their implications for project contracts and agreements, risk, and financial performance.
  • Familiarity with the technical aspects, phasing, and Work & Cost Breakdown Structures (WBS & CBS) of transportation infrastructure projects to evaluate associated risks and the requisite needs and impacts of changes to scope, quality, project Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), schedule, costs, and profitability.
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation, cost control, variations management, claims management, contract and project risk assessments, and public and private sector procurements.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, commercial practices, bonding and insurance, cost management, project life-cycle cost analysis and evaluation, Rules of Credit, pain/gain share mechanisms, contract administration, procurement strategies, risk mitigation, and dispute management. MRICS and MCIPS professional certifications would be a plus.
  • Familiarity with cost management tools, accounting systems, and financial software such as Vista Viewpoint ERP, InEight PM System, MS Dynamics, and project management platforms such as Primavera P6, SAP, or Oracle.
  • Thorough knowledge of related technology and common data environment management standards, such as ISO 19650, providing a framework for the management and exchange of data and confidential information throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Excellent leadership, team management, communications, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate transparently and professionally with clients, partners, project teams, and stakeholders to build long-term relationships and trust.
  • An analytical proactive mindset with critical decision-making capabilities and the ability, passion, and strategic foresight to anticipate and mitigate commercial management risks.
  • Knowledge and interest related to embodied carbon is considered an asset
