Responsibilities

  • Assist with the assessment of commercial financing proposals, including due diligence, financial analysis, credit application preparation, and recommendations that adhere to policies and risk guidelines.
  • Analyze new financing requests, renewals, annual reviews, amendments, and risk assessments for existing and prospective Members.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze financial statements, cash flow information, collateral details, and other documentation to assess creditworthiness and risk.
  • Prepare clear credit applications, annual reviews, renewal packages, and credit recommendations with analysis of performance, debt servicing, collateral, and risk factors.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to support management, approval, documentation, and funding of credit facilities.
  • Communicate with lending partners to obtain information, clarify credit requirements, and support timely completion of requests and portfolio management.
  • Monitor borrower performance, covenant compliance, financial reporting requirements, and risk indicators; escalate concerns as needed.
  • Ensure credit files are complete, current, and properly maintained with required documentation and approvals.
  • Research industry sectors, market conditions, and portfolio trends to support credit decisions and risk assessment.
  • Support prudent portfolio growth by balancing member needs, business objectives, risk appetite, and policy requirements.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external parties by responding to inquiries and ensuring a professional credit adjudication process.
  • Maintain knowledge of lending policies, underwriting standards, documentation requirements, and enterprise risk expectations.

The Role

The Commercial Lending Analyst is responsible for analyzing, assessing, underwriting, and monitoring commercial credit relationships and lending transactions. The incumbent contributes to YNCU’s Commercial Lending profitability and growth by assisting with the ongoing management of a diverse portfolio of business relationships. The incumbent supports the Commercial Lending team through financial analysis, credit application preparation, portfolio monitoring, and business development activities on a day-to-day basis, including site visits as required.

  • Assist with the assessment of commercial financing proposals, including due diligence, research, financial analysis, credit application preparation, and recommendations that adhere to YNCU’s policies, procedures, and risk guidelines.
  • Analyze new financing requests, renewals, annual reviews, amendments, and risk assessments for both existing and prospective Members, ensuring reviews are completed within targeted timelines and in accordance with YNCU’s credit and risk standards.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze financial statements, cash flow information, collateral details, borrowing base information, industry data, and other relevant documentation to assess creditworthiness, repayment capacity, and overall risk.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and well-supported credit applications, annual reviews, renewal packages, and credit recommendations, including analysis of financial performance, debt servicing capacity, collateral coverage, industry conditions, risks, mitigants, proposed credit structure, and risk rating considerations.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to support the ongoing management, administration, approval, documentation, and funding of commercial credit facilities.
  • Communicate with Commercial Lending business partners as required to help obtain information, clarify credit requirements, support credit decisions, and assist with the timely completion of new requests, renewals, amendments, and portfolio management activities.
  • Monitor borrower performance, covenant compliance, financial reporting requirements, borrowing base requirements, and emerging risk indicators, escalating concerns and recommending appropriate action where required.
  • Ensure commercial credit files are reviewed regularly, and that required documentation, approvals, financial reporting, security, and compliance items are complete, current, and properly maintained.
  • Research and analyze industry sectors, market conditions, economic indicators, and portfolio trends to support credit decisions and assess transaction and portfolio risk.
  • Support prudent portfolio growth and quality of business by balancing Member needs, business objectives, risk appetite, policy requirements, and sound credit judgment.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external parties by responding to inquiries, supporting business partners, and helping ensure a professional, timely, and consistent credit adjudication process.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of YNCU’s commercial lending policies, procedures, underwriting standards, documentation requirements, and applicable enterprise risk management expectations.
  • Identify and bring forward credit, operational, policy, documentation, or enterprise risk issues for discussion, review, and resolution with the Manager, Commercial Lending Analysts, as appropriate.
  • Stay current with general economic indicators, commercial lending trends, industry sector risks, and financial analysis practices relevant to YNCU’s commercial portfolio.

What we are looking for:
  • 2+ years of previous commercial lending, commercial credit analysis, or related financial services experience.
  • Post-secondary diploma, degree and/or certification in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Commerce, Accounting, or a related program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and analyze financial statements, cash flow, repayment capacity, collateral support, and key credit risk factors.
  • Knowledge of commercial lending products, credit structures, security documentation, financial services products and services.
  • Prior experience supporting credit applications, annual reviews, renewals, risk assessments, or commercial loan administration would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours when required.
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Must be bondable

Salary range: $69,000 - $74,000

The compensation offered to the successful applicant for this role will be determined by the candidate’s relevant skills and experience and internal equity. More information about our total rewards package will be available during the hiring process.
