Job summary

Wiehler Mechanical Ltd. is seeking a Junior Estimator to learn the trade from the ground up, working with our Senior Estimator on plumbing bids for general contractors and owners. The role offers a clear path to senior estimating or project management and an office-based environment with potential for hybrid work.

You will perform quantity take-offs, track bid deadlines, send RFQs, and maintain pricing databases while developing essential estimating skills.

Qualifications

• 1+ year plumbing or mechanical experience in field or office.
• Ability to read plumbing and mechanical drawings.
• Comfort working in software and on the computer all day.
• Strong attention to detail; you catch the missing valve before it costs us.
• Clear, confident communication with suppliers and the team.

Responsibilities

• Own take-off work for bids to keep estimates accurate and timely.
• Complete quantity take-offs for commercial plumbing projects (fixtures, piping, fittings, valves, equipment).
• Track bid deadlines, addenda and drawing revisions.
• Send RFQs to suppliers and subtrades and ensure pricing arrives on time.
• Review quotes against full scope and flag gaps or exclusions.

Job description

Wiehler Mechanical's commercial department is growing, and we're adding a Junior Estimator to our estimating team. You'll learn the trade side of the business from the ground up, working directly with our Senior Estimator on plumbing bids for general contractors and owners.

This role has a clear path forward. Many estimators grow into senior estimating or project management, and we want to help you get there.

What You'll Do

Reporting to the Senior Estimator, you'll own the take-off work that keeps our bids accurate and on time.

• Complete quantity take-offs for commercial plumbing projects in our estimating software (fixtures, piping, fittings, valves and equipment)
• Track bid deadlines, addenda and drawing revisions so nothing gets missed
• Send requests for quotes to suppliers and subtrades, and follow up so pricing arrives on time
• Review each quote against the full scope and flag gaps or exclusions to the Senior Estimator
• Keep project files organized and help maintain our material pricing and labour databases

What You Bring

Must have

• 1+ year of plumbing or mechanical experience, in the field or the office
• Ability to read plumbing and mechanical drawings
• Comfort working in software and on the computer all day
• Strong attention to detail; you catch the missing valve before it costs us
• Clear, confident communication with suppliers and your team

Nice to have

• Mechanical engineering education
• Journeyperson plumber ticket, or a current indentured apprentice
• Experience with estimating or take-off software

What we offer

• $55,000–$65,000 per year
• Full-time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

The role is mostly office-based. Occasional site visits come later, with a hard hat, safety vest and steel-toed boots.
