The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and experience with furnace controls, ensuring optimal energy consumption. Responsibilities include daily furnace inspections, managing production targets, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. A technical degree is preferred along with 3-5 years of manufacturing experience.

Job description

Job Description

The Combustion Engineer works in partnership with the Batch and Furnace Manager, and the Production and Quality Managers, to produce glass containers at continuously improving levels of quality and efficiency.

  • Strong understanding of furnace controls and trends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The Combustion Engineer will:

  • Ensure safe and efficient operating conditions of glass melting furnaces
  • Ensure optimal energy consumption and proper burner set-up (flame geometry, length, overall profile)
  • Ensure furnace conditions are within prescribed parameters through daily inspections
  • Review furnace data daily and make adjustments as needed
  • Assist in managing production targets
  • Support continuous improvement and waste elimination through ongoing analysis and identification of inefficiencies
  • Assist with troubleshooting manufacturing process problems

The Combustion Engineer should have:

  • Solid understanding of combustion (oxy-fuel combustion)
  • Strong analytical and data analysis skills
  • Experience scheduling preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Strong understanding of furnace controls and trends
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required
  • Technical degree preferred (chemical, mechanical, ceramic, or manufacturing)
  • 3-5 years of manufacturing experience
  • Glass manufacturing experience is preferred
  • Ability to perform physical, hands-on work on the plant floor
  • Ability to lead and work independently
