Description:
As a Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologist I, you will perform procedures in both the laboratory and diagnostic imaging, typically in rural sites. You will work as a member of the inter-professional team and be responsible for collecting and analyzing biological specimens, conducting X-ray examinations, ECGs, and reporting results. Responsibilities include preparing patients, venipuncture and micropuncture, routine equipment maintenance, maintaining supplies, and performing quality control procedures.
Completion of diploma from an accredited program in Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology (CLXT). Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-ray Technologists (ACCLXT).
Required to take call and live within 30 minutes of the facility when on call. Recent experience as a CLXT performing procedures in a core laboratory and general diagnostic imaging, including hospital affiliated training programs. Laboratory experience includes hematology, expanded chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, specimen collection, preparation and referral. The ability to effectively communicate in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork, under pressure and in emergency situations. Recent cardiology experience including ECG and Holter Monitor. Demonstrated initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail. Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Practices effective radiation protection, infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification. Ability to adapt and be receptive to new ideas and change. Demonstrated desire and actions to further own knowledge relating to profession. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful situations using tact and diplomacy. Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
