Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority is seeking a Combined Laboratory/X-Ray Technologist to support multi-site operations. The role involves performing imaging, lab tests, ECGs, and patient monitoring under supervision while maintaining data integrity in electronic systems.

The incumbent will work in a rotating on-call schedule and must meet operational requirements for after-hours coverage. Completion of relevant bridging programs is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized combined Laboratory/ Medical Radiography Technician Program.
• One year related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• On-call and rotating shift capabilities may be required.

Responsibilities

• Receive and complete requisitions, forms and reports for patient testing and imaging.
• Monitor patients during procedures and ensure safety and comfort.
• Perform general imaging procedures as qualified, including archiving images.
• Carry out routine Laboratory testing and ECGs as qualified.
• Utilize computerized patient data systems and maintain supplies and equipment.

Job Description

Reporting to the Supervisor or designate, the Laboratory Combined Technologist receives and completes requisitions, forms and reports; monitors patients; performs general imaging procedures, as qualified, including archiving acquired images; carries out routine Laboratory and ECG testing, as qualified; utilizes computerized patient data systems; and prepares and monitors supplies and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized combined Laboratory/ Medical Radiography Technician Program; One (1) year recent related experience; or An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

This position participates in a rotating on-call schedule to support after-hours laboratory services, and applicants must be able to meet the operational requirements associated with on-call availability and callback response.Routine night shifts are not currently staffed by MLT/CLXT employees; however, overnight coverage is provided through an on-call callback model. Operational requirements may change in the future, including the potential reintroduction of night shifts should the Emergency Department reopen.Completion of the NAIT Transfusion Medicine (TRAM) bridging program (TRAM101, TRAM201, and TRAM301), or an equivalent recognized Transfusion Medicine bridging program, is considered an asset. These qualifications are particularly valuable for employees who may work at sites requiring the full scope of Transfusion Medicine laboratory services.
