The Opportunity : The Financial Post is hiring a columnist to bring a lively and informed perspective to our coverage of the Canadian economy. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, you’ll weigh in regularly on the biggest financial topics of the day, producing a combination of fact-based journalism and thought-provoking opinion that enlightens and entertains. What you’ll do :

• Write a regular column that helps our readers understand the most pressing financial and economic issues of the day, especially those that affect their pocketbooks
• Provide reporting support when breaking news requires
• Provide guidance and support to other reporters in the newsroom, as needed

Qualifications

• You have 10+ years of reporting and / or opinion writing experience in a daily newsroom, preferably in business journalism
• You have a demonstrated ability to write engaging commentary
• You are familiar with the business, economics and personal finance topics that are most important to Canadians
• You have a knack for generating thought-provoking angles that go beyond the headlines of the day and journalistic clichés
• You have a strong writing voice and a deep desire to help readers understand not just what happened, but why it’s important and what they should think about it
• You are used to a daily newsroom environment and the need to react quickly and hit tight deadlines
