Position Description

Title: Coater Operator

Department: Coating

Location: Cornwall, ON

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Position Overview

The Coater Operator plays a key role in supporting production by operating and maintaining coating equipment. This position is responsible for preparing materials, performing machine setups and changeovers, assisting with quality control, troubleshooting, and making minor repairs. By ensuring smooth machine operation and collaborating with team members, the Coater Operator helps maintain safe working conditions, minimize downtime, and achieve production targets while meeting quality standards.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Operate and monitor all coating machines to ensure efficient production.
  • Prepare and stage materials using appropriate equipment (e.g., forklift, pump truck).
  • Set up machines for production cycles, including calibration and cleaning.
  • Perform machine changeovers and minor repairs (e.g., shafts, blades).
  • Adjust machine settings such as speed and temperature.
  • Inspect finished products using precision tools and conduct periodic machine tests.
  • Identify and report defects; maintain accurate production logs and reports.
  • Collaborate with Machine Tenders and Lead Hands to meet production, safety, and quality standards.
  • Assist with powder preparation to maintain machine operation.
  • Operate and maintain forklifts, including safety checks and battery changes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies on safety, quality, cost control, and waste reduction.
  • Follow manufacturing procedures and inspection processes.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and quality teams to resolve issues.
  • Use required PPE and work safely around machinery.
  • Perform cycle counts, clean plant areas, and train other employees as needed.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Work Conditions
  • Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Physically demanding work including lifting up to 55 lbs and standing for extended periods.
  • Fast‑paced manufacturing environment requiring attention to detail.
  • Exposure to noise, adhesives, and moving machinery.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift license or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and machine setup manuals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting production deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of safety regulations and production procedures.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
