Dillon's Coastal Engineering Group seeks a talented Coastal Engineering Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team. You will work on various coastal projects across Canada, providing integrated, expert solutions. This position is available at all offices, with a preference for our Hamilton location.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Management & Technical Leadership

  • Lead and manage coastal engineering projects, providing technical guidance on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop expertise in coastal erosion, protection, flooding assessments, port development, and shoreline management.
  • Conduct hydrotechnical assessments, including wave transformation, storm surge modeling, and tidal analysis.
  • Coordinate coastal engineering components in diverse projects, from small studies to large infrastructure.
  • Oversee field investigations, data collection, and monitoring programs.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, planners, and other specialists.

Learning & Development

  • Commit to ongoing professional growth in coastal engineering.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to junior staff.
  • Participate in professional associations and committees related to coastal issues.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or coastal engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, ideally in consulting coastal projects.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Professional engineering license or ability to obtain within a year.

Required Experience

  • Strong knowledge of coastal hydrodynamic and numerical modeling.
  • Experience with coastal structures, ecosystem restoration, navigation, or dredging projects.
  • Familiarity with design standards for coastal / marine engineering.
  • Ability to document design basis, data analysis, and assumptions clearly.
  • Experience considering climate change and sea-level rise in design.
  • Experience with risk assessments and vulnerability analysis.
  • Proficiency with scripting software like Matlab or Python.
  • Effective team collaboration skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with construction inspection and contract management.
  • Experience with SFINCS or other coastal modeling software like Delft3D, MIKE21, TELEMAC, SWAN.
