This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the growing Coast Salish Team in the Vancouver Island Region.
Title: Coast Salish Hub Social Worker
Salary: $70,933 - $85,350 per year (pay range explained below)
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)
Location: Ladysmith or Sydney, BC, located on the ancestral territories of the Stz’uminus and WSÁNEC Nations – Hybrid - Travel within the Coast Salish territory, including to rural and remote communities, is required.

About The Role
As Coast Salish Hub Social Worker, you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team supporting First Nations communities across the Vancouver Island Region. Rooted in an Indigenous worldview, you will provide culturally grounded, strengths-based support that empowers individuals, families, and communities. As part of a collaborative Hub and Spoke teamlet, you will build community capacity by offering guidance, coordination, and responsive services tailored to local needs. Your focus will be on developing and coordinating community-based services in partnership with Nations, while also offering expert consultation to leadership, Health Leads, and partners, including navigating external systems and resources, facilitating referrals, and supporting the implementation of internal tools such as the IH/FNHA Joint Crisis Response Protocol.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have/be –
Education and Occupational Certifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Advanced training in threat and risk assessment and/or trauma response.
- Current Registered Social Worker (RSW) registration with the BC College of Social Workers is preferred, and a Master’s Degree in Social Work is an asset.
- A current valid B.C. driver’s license and willing to submit a drivers abstract.
Experience And Knowledge
- 5-7 years of recent and related experience in a health care setting.
- Strong understanding of culturally relevant practices, including traditional healing, local First Nations customs, and the socio-historical context of Indigenous communities in Canada.
- Knowledge of assessment and screening tools for evaluating suicide and violence risk, with an emphasis on trauma-informed approaches.
- Familiarity with various coordination and engagement methods, and the importance of critical reflection in social work practice.

- Demonstrates cultural safety, agility, and the ability to balance Western and traditional Indigenous worldviews in practice.
- Practices from a holistic, Nation-based, and community-driven perspective that centers individuals, families, and communities.
- Applies critical self-reflection and professional ethics to navigate complex situations and resolve ethical dilemmas.
- Understands the unique challenges and barriers faced by rural and remote communities.
- Builds and maintains respectful relationships with allied professionals, community leaders, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers.

The Pay Range is the minimum (Step 1) and maximum (highest Step) annual base salary based on full time equivalent hours.
