The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Classroom Coach (Elementary)

Reports to: Coordinator of Mathematics and Assessment

Position Overview

The Classroom Coach will support elementary classrooms across Shelburne County Schools with a focus on strengthening instructional practices, assessment strategies, and classroom routines.

The Classroom Coach will:

  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to improve teaching and learning;
  • Model effective instructional strategies aligned with curriculum and student needs;
  • Co-plan and co-teach lessons that promote student engagement and success;
  • Support the use of equitable and responsive assessment practices;
  • Help establish and reinforce consistent, developmentally appropriate classroom routines;
  • Promote consistency in high-quality teaching practices to support improved student outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education (Elementary).
  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate.
  • Master of Education in Curriculum, Assessment, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of NS curriculum, workshop model, and inclusive practices.
  • Expertise in equitable and culturally responsive assessment.


Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years of recent, successful elementary teaching experience demonstrating effective, student-centered instructional practices.
  • Planned and facilitated professional learning sessions.
  • Provided instructional coaching and mentoring.
  • Proven ability to use data to guide instruction and improve student learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and model effective high leverage instructional practices.
  • Promote equitable and culturally responsive assessment practices.
  • Help teachers develop effective routines and classroom structures.
  • Use coaching cycles to support student growth and success.
  • Facilitate professional learning aligned with school improvement goals.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Work in classrooms with teachers to improve each teacher’s classroom-based instruction, assessment practices, pedagogy and routines.
  • Provide planning and facilitation of professional development at region, school, and individual level.
  • Implement strategies, activities, and techniques for promoting student learning based on each student’s prior knowledge, skills, and learning needs.
  • Work in classrooms with students and classroom teachers to support learning and the transfer of skills and strategies.
  • Use assessment to determine next steps.
  • Attend meetings and ongoing professional development provided for coaches.
  • Monitor, assess, evaluate, and report on the impact of initiatives.
