CO2 Plant Operator (Full Time) – Ft. Saskatchewan, AB

The function of this job is to operate and troubleshoot the Carbon Dioxide plant in a safe and efficient manner, as described in various procedures, processes and regulatory requirements. Using process knowledge, the Operator works in a team environment where individuals are empowered to prioritize and complete different activities with minimal supervision. Successful candidates must be able to work 12-hour shifts (days) with requirements to remain "on call" to replace an absent colleague and/or respond to plant concerns.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow Operating Discipline principles, procedures and practices to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant and equipment
  • Interact with various electronic, pneumatic, PLC and HMI control systems during start-up and continuous operation of plant processes and equipment
  • Use troubleshooting skills to recognize and resolve process discrepancies and issues
  • Perform certain repairs and provide necessary assistance to maintenance teams during plant shutdowns, equipment upgrades/refurbishments and preventive maintenance
  • Use process knowledge and skills to improve productivity and reliability
  • Maintain professional and timely communication between contractors, visitors, clients, colleagues and management
  • Load and offload LCO2 rail cars
  • Perform QA related calibration and testing
  • Safely manage facility contractors (Work Permits, Safety oversight)

Education, Professional and Technical Requirements:

  • Power Engineer - hold or be enrolled in 5th or 4th Class Power Engineering Program
  • Operating experience in a continuous industrial process
  • Computer and technical skills in order to be able to supervise a manufacturing process where the control system can be manual, pneumatic or automated
  • Ability to read and interpret various drawings such as P&ID and SWD
  • Be motivated, autonomous, and able to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to recognize, understand, analyze and resolve technical issues
  • Able to work overtime as needed
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Current and valid driver's license
  • Able to meet the following physical demands:
    • Ability to lift up to 25kg
    • Climb stairs and ladders
    • Work outdoors, at heights, during inclement weather, in tight and enclosed spaces
    • Stationed at a computer for several hours at a time
    • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
