Job summary

General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada is offering a student placement in the Sonar Systems team to assist with requirements analysis, test design, and software/systems testing on Sonar and Sonobuoy Processors.

You will work under guidance from senior engineers, develop test cases, and contribute to documentation while gaining hands-on experience with next-generation defence technologies in a hybrid work setting.

  • Enrolled as a student in a Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other applicable scientific discipline at a recognized university program.
  • Positive approach to learning and trying new things.
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent communication

Responsibilities

  • Perform systems and software test activities, and execute verification tests as directed by the Test Lead to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Working under guidance from a senior engineer, develop and perform test cases to validate specific requirements.
  • Assist in analyzing requirements allocated to the Acoustic Processing System.
  • Assist in developing technical documentation; and
  • Operate and maintain test simulators and equipment.

Job description

Our Sonar Systems team plays a pivotal role in General Dynamics, driving innovation and excellence in Sonar and Sonobuoy Processing Systems. As a Sonar Systems team member, you will assist in carrying out activities such as requirements analysis, software test design, and performing software/systems testing on Sonar and Sonobuoy Processors.

In this role you can expect to:
  • Perform systems and software test activities, and execute verification tests as directed by the Test Lead to ensure design requirements are met;
  • Working under guidance from a senior engineer, develop and perform test cases to validate specific requirements;
  • Assist in analyzing requirements allocated to the Acoustic Processing System;
  • Assist in developing technical documentation; and
  • Operate and maintain test simulators and equipment.
What You Need to Have to Succeed
  • Enrolled as a student in a Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other applicable scientific discipline at a recognized university program.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment

What Makes You Stand Out
  • Some project based experience with particular emphasis in the testing role would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of formal software lifecycle;
  • Experience with Unix-like operating systems;
  • Knowledge of DOORS or other requirement management tool would be an asset;
  • Practical knowledge of Matlab would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with Git or other software configuration management
  • Knowledge and experience with RTC, JIRA, or other bug/issue tracking tool would be an asset;
  • Development in CIC++ or Python would be an asset
  • Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations. You must be eligible to work in Canada.

Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is $24.92 - $33.23. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. As part of student placement, you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
