Summary of Duties:

The Environmental and Engineering Services Department, Traffic Engineering Division of the City of London, is seeking an Engineering Student to assist with work in the division from: noted above contracts. The chosen individual shall have a good work ethic, specific knowledge and related university courses.

Work Performed:

The student is required to perform the following duties under the direction and with the assistance of Engineering Staff:

  • Traffic counts (manual and automated) and analysis
  • Speed surveys and analysis
  • Parking inventory update
  • Collision data assembly, analysis and reporting
  • Travel time surveys
  • Traffic Calming Reviews

  • Technical support for various capital project designs and environmental assessments
  • Public Education and Enforcement Program (PEEP) coordination and scheduling.
  • Traffic Operations Public Service (TOPS) inspections, interviews, documentation, evaluation and communication
  • Municipal Consent, Zoning By-law and Official Plan Amendment application review assistance and response
  • Special projects involving design of roads and structures (ie: view obstructions, proposal reviews, site surveys, preliminary design, quantity take off, tender reviews, site photos following construction, etc).
Qualifications:

Currently enrolled full-time in an academic program related to Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Transportation Planning/Design.

Must be a current student enrolled in full-time studies and/or require this placement to graduate from an academic program.

Experience:

Experience working with the public, including handling complaints and resolving conflicts, is an asset.

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to communicate in an inclusive and respectful manner.

Demonstrated experience or interest in data analysis (an asset).

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with above-average computer skills; advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.

Strong report writing and presentation skills are desirable.

Comfortable working in a professional office setting; this position is based at City Hall in downtown London, conveniently located near public transit and Western University.

Specialized Training & Licenses:

Possesses a valid G Class driver’s license (a personal vehicle is not required).

Compensation & Other Information:

$22.44 - $26.17

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 12 month student position.

Length of Term: September 2025 - September 2026.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid.
