Zymeworks is seeking a Co-op Student to join the Protein Production team in Vancouver, BC. You will support experimental studies and expression/characterization of recombinant proteins, and contribute to the team’s efforts to develop best-in-class biotherapeutics. The role reports to the Sr.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related discipline.
  • Available for a co-op term of at least 8 months; completion of at least one relevant co-op term is preferred.
  • Experience with cell culture and aseptic technique is an asset.
  • Knowledge of recombinant protein expression is an asset.
  • Proficient with computers, particularly Microsoft Office.
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
  • Strong note taking and task prioritization.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, both one-on-one and in a group setting.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains mammalian cell cultures and performs transient protein expressions to support research programs.
  • Assists with characterization of recombinant proteins using SDS-PAGE and BLI quantitation.
  • Supports the plasmid preparation workflow.
  • Checks, orders, and stocks required lab consumables and reagents.
  • Maintains accurate records of methods and raw data.
  • Evaluates data and summarizes results for presentations.
  • Adheres to scientific standards, OS&H regulations and company policies.
  • Maintains an up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.

We are currently seeking a Co-op Student to join our Protein Production team. The successful candidate will support experimental studies and tasks related to the expression and characterization of recombinant proteins, critically evaluate results, and contribute to the team effort to create best-in-class therapeutics. This position will report into the Sr. Research Associate I, Protein Production and will be based in Vancouver, BC. The candidate must be available to work on-site without relocation assistance.

This role will be located in Vancouver, BC and is full-time onsite. The hourly wage for this co-op position is $21.00 CAD.

What You'll Do
  • Maintains mammalian cell cultures and performs transient protein expressions to support research programs and projects.
  • Assists with the characterization of recombinant proteins using a variety of techniques including SDS-PAGE and BLI quantitation.
  • Supports the plasmid preparation workflow.
  • Checks, orders, and stocks required lab consumables and reagents.
  • Maintains accurate records of methods and raw data.
  • Evaluates data and summarize results for presentations.
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks’ policies and practices.
  • Adheres to Zymeworks’ standard procedures for generating, documenting and archiving data, and maintaining an up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Contributes to the routine maintenance of the laboratory.
What You'll Bring
