Job summary

Zymeworks is seeking a motivated undergraduate for a co-op placement in Vancouver. You will assist in purifying recombinant proteins and characterizing them using standard analytical methods, while preparing buffers and maintaining meticulous records.

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology.
• Available for a co-op term of at least 8 months; completion of at least one co-op preferred.
• Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
• Highly organized with good attention to detail.
• Experience with protein purification and biophysical characterization is an asset.
• Knowledge of protein structure is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, both one-on-one and in group settings.
• Results-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist with purification of recombinant proteins using chromatography techniques.
• Assist with characterization of recombinant proteins using SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, and UPLC-SEC.
• Prepare media, buffers, and reagents.
• Maintain accurate records of methods and raw data.
• Evaluate data and summarize results for presentations.
• Conduct activities in accordance with OSH regulations and company policies.
• Adhere to standard procedures for data generation, documentation and archiving in an electronic notebook.
• Contribute to routine maintenance of the laboratory.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with the purification of recombinant proteins using a variety of chromatography techniques including affinity and size-exclusion.
• Assist with the characterization of recombinant proteins using a variety of techniques including SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, UV-VIS spectrophotometry, and UPLC-SEC.
• Prepare media, buffers, and reagents.
• Maintain accurate records of methods and raw data.
• Evaluate data and summarize results for presentations.
• Conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks’ policies and practices.
• Adhere to Zymeworks’ standard procedures for generating, documenting and archiving data, and maintaining an up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook.
• Contribute to the routine maintenance of the laboratory.

What You’ll Bring

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, orrelated discipline.
• Available for a co-op term of at least 8-months. Successful completion of at least one relevant co-op term is preferred.
• Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a cross-functional team and maintain effective working relationships.
• Highly organized with good attention to detail.
• Experience with protein purification and biophysical characterization methods is an asset.
• Knowledge of protein structure is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, both one-on-one and in a group setting.
