Job summary

Metrolinx is seeking a 4-month Co-op Student in Toronto to support the Internal Audit plan and gain exposure to audit processes, data analysis, and governance. You will work with partners across the organization and contribute to project deliverables.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety Regulatory Inspection, you will help prepare reports, develop dashboards, and assist with process improvement and documentation while building valuable professional experience in a large public sector

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary co-op program.
• Enrolled in a Technical or Management program (data analytics, PM, engineering, business).
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

• Maintain and update filing systems and support records management.
• Gather, organize, input, and analyze data to support reports and projects.

4-Month Co-op Term | January 2027 to April 2027

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Our Internal Audit team is looking for a Co-op Student to support the planning, execution, and reporting of activities related to the annual Internal Audit Plan. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will collaborate with internal partners across the organization and gain exposure to audit processes, data analysis, process improvement, and operational governance.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Safety Regulatory Inspection, you will contribute to a variety of projects and day-to-day activities that support audit reviews, process assessments, and team operations.

What will I be doing?

• Provide administrative and technical support to the team, including preparing reports, memos, presentations, and other documentation.
• Maintain and update electronic and hard-copy filing systems and support records management activities.
• Gather, organize, input, and analyze data to support reports, presentations, meetings, and projects.
• Support audit leads during the planning, execution, and reporting of safety regulatory assessment reviews.
• Assist with reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline workflows, and support automation initiatives.
• Develop dashboards, scorecards, spreadsheets, forms, and databases to track, analyze, and report on key performance and governance metrics.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to collect information, respond to inquiries, and support project deliverables.
• Prepare operational reports and documentation on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, as required.
• Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, attend meetings, and record meeting minutes.
• Participate in occasional travel and/or field work, as required.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

Required

• Currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary co-op program and eligible to complete a co-op work term as part of your academic requirements, with plans to return to school following the work term.
• Enrolled in a Technical or Management program such as Data Analytics, Project Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Management, or a related discipline.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  

Assets

• Interest in rail transportation, transit, infrastructure, regulatory compliance, or capital project delivery.
• Experience collecting, organizing, analyzing, or reporting data.
• Experience developing dashboards, scorecards, spreadsheets, or databases.
• Familiarity with audit, compliance, governance, risk, or process improvement concepts.
• Experience through work, volunteer, academic, or co-op projects that demonstrates research, analytical, or project coordination skills.
