Job summary

Region of Waterloo is seeking a Co-op Student, Airport Operations Assistant to support regulatory and operational activities at the Airport Operations Centre. Responsibilities include assisting with training, safety audits, handling aeronautical noise inquiries, GIS asset inventory, and maintaining manuals and records.

The role involves collaboration on safety committees, engagement in marketing events, and ensuring accurate operational documentation while gaining exposure to aviation

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university.
• Familiar with aviation regulatory context and safety culture.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

• Coordinates safety management system audit checklists, schedules, and plans.
• Receives and responds to aeronautical noise complaints.
• Maintains an inventory of airfield assets in the GIS system.
• Updates and distributes manuals and operational plans.
• Participates on committees (e.g., Safety Management System, Workplace Health and Safety, Airport Security, Aeronautical Noise Advisory).
• Assists with marketing events and tours.

Duties/Responsibilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Canadian aviation regulations, especially in relation to airport certification, is acquired
• through current enrolment in a related college or university program.
• Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., Transport
• Canada Manual of Aerodrome Standards and Recommended Practices (TP312)).
• Communication and customer service skills to respond to public inquiries and concerns;
• exchange information with other staff; provide updates to supervisor; and participate as an effective
• team member.
• Ability to read/review and update documents and manuals.
• Ability to work independently.
• Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office.
• Must hold a valid Restricted Radiotelephone Operator’s Certificate.
• Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
