Job description

Overview

The Accounting Services department of WorkSafeBC is looking for one highly motivated Co-op student, Accounting Services to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The student will assist with the accounting and travel expense administrative functions in our department. This is an eight-month temporary opportunity starting in September 2025.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will get a chance to meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program designed to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager and mentor to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through the onboarding program alongside your supervisor for added guidance and support.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:
  • Perform travel expense administration with a policy focus, expense analysis and Excel spreadsheet development activities
  • Perform accounts payable and administrative related duties
  • Participate in ongoing projects relating to the needs of the team and operational activities
  • Gather data to perform analysis as required
  • Conduct reconciliations and verification of data and information from our internal and external clients
  • Document procedures for any ad-hoc analysis and review and update training manual as needed
  • Support professional and administrative ad-hoc tasks related to the needs of the team such as event planning or meeting preparation

Your background and experience
  • You are a third- or fourth-year student enrolled in Accounting, Business Administration or in a related program
  • You have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint required
  • Previous co-op or relevant work experience in an office and customer facing environment is preferred
