Job description

Position Scope

We are currently seeking Accounting Students to join North American Construction Group's (NACG) finance team for either an eight-month or twelve-month contract. In this role, you will rotate through various functions within the finance department, gaining exposure to month-end and year-end closing activities, open PO analysis, cost accruals, account reconciliations, vendor reconciliations, and results analysis. You will assist in preparing working papers, public financial documents, and interacting with management and auditors during year-end activities.

NACG's financial statements are publicly listed, prepared in accordance with US GAAP, and traded on the NYSE and TSX. NACG is a CPA Alberta Pre-Approved Program for practical experience. This position is based at our Head Office in Acheson, near Edmonton.

Rate of Pay: $22.00 - $28.00/hr
Site: Acheson Head Office
Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm

Responsibilities

What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities following NACG policies and US GAAP.
  • Prepare audit working papers and communicate with team members and auditors during audits and reviews.
  • Assist with the preparation of consolidated financial statements and public documents.
  • Reconcile and analyze the company's balance sheet with finance teams.
  • Prepare, analyze, and report on revenue and costs.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial analysis and reporting.
  • Research and respond to financial queries.
  • Coordinate with accounts payable, receivable, and payroll to resolve issues.
  • Assist in routine and ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
  • Participate in department initiatives.
Qualifications

What Makes You the ONE

  • Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting or Finance preferred).
  • Preparing for CPA PEP admission.
  • Understanding of accounting concepts.
  • Problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous accounting office experience is a plus.
  • Customer service experience is desirable.
  • High energy, capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Own vehicle is required.
