Job summary

Nova Scotia Power's Energy Delivery Distribution Engineering team invites an Electrical Engineering student to join as a Winter 2027 Co-op. Based in Sackville or Truro, Nova Scotia, you will gain hands-on experience supporting operation and design of the electrical distribution network that powers homes and businesses.

During January to April 2027, work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to field data analysis, asset management, and engineering records.

• Pursuing an Electrical Engineering degree and applying classroom learning to real-world utility infrastructure.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to technical details.
• Comfort with engineering software/tools and ability to manage multiple tasks in a team setting.

Are you an Electrical Engineering student looking to apply your classroom learning to real-world infrastructure that powers communities across Nova Scotia?

As an Engineering Co-op with our Energy Delivery Distribution Engineering team, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting the operation and design of the electrical distribution network that delivers reliable energy to homes and businesses every day.

During the Winter 2027 term, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and technical professionals while developing practical knowledge of distribution systems, electrical protection, customer servicing, engineering records, and asset management. You'll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects, participate in technical reviews, and gain valuable insight into how utility engineering supports safe and reliable service for customers.

This is an exciting opportunity for students who enjoy problem-solving, technical analysis, and learning how engineering principles are applied in the field.

What You’ll Do

• Support the operation and design of Nova Scotia Power's electrical distribution network.
• Gather and analyze field and historical asset data to support engineering decisions and system planning.
• Develop an understanding of distribution equipment, electrical protection systems, and overcurrent protective devices.
• Assist with customer servicing reviews and technical assessments, including fault level requests.
• Help maintain the accuracy of engineering records through updates to underground distribution drawings.
• Support the review and markup of new drawing revisions and engineering documentation.
• Contribute to projects that improve the reliability and effectiveness of the distribution system.
• Collaborate with engineers, technical staff, and cross-functional stakeholders to solve engineering challenges.
• Apply engineering principles and analytical thinking to support project and operational objectives.

Who You Are

• Are currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally in your second, third, or fourth year of study.
• Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and enjoy working with technical information.
• Are comfortable using computer applications and engineering-related software and tools.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills and can manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Take initiative, show accountability, and approach challenges with a positive attitude.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of audiences.
• Are comfortable presenting information and participating in technical discussions.
